On the button for a perfect Christmas Turkey

by Peter Seib on 5 January, 2015

Peter with some of the Pop-up Timers

“People are rightly nervous about under-cooking the Christmas Turkey and cooks don’t get much practice at roasting this meat. The Pop-UP™ timer makes it really easy to see when the turkey is perfectly cooked. Just push the device right the way in, up to the hilt, if your butcher hasn’t already done this for you. Then cook the bird in the normal way (adjusting times for your stuffing, of course). When the red button pops out on a stalk, the bird is ready. The probe measures the temperature deep inside the flesh, a trick professional chefs use to ensure perfect result every time.
This is the second year that SSDC has given these devices away and I would like to thank all of the local independent butchers for their help. Last year we had very positive feedback and I would really like to get South Somerset’s supermarkets on-side with this as well but their national supply chains make that difficult. The Environmental Health staff members had great fun testing the device and report that it does exactly what it claims. The initiative costs us pennies but it reduces stress and helps to prevent food poisoning, so it’s well worth doing.”
